Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 flatbreads or pita breads
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
  • Optional: sliced tomatoes and red onion

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each into a sausage-like kofta around metal or soaked wooden skewers.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates.
  4. Grill the kofta skewers for 4-5 minutes per side, until cooked through and slightly charred.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare the tzatziki by mixing Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, dill, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Chill until ready to serve.
  6. Warm the flatbreads on the grill or stovetop.
  7. To assemble, place two koftas on each flatbread, add a generous spoonful of tzatziki, and garnish with fresh mint leaves and optional sliced tomatoes and red onion.
  8. Wrap tightly and serve immediately.

Notes

For a smoky flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika to the beef mixture or grill over charcoal. You can also swap beef for lamb for a more authentic taste.
