Cornbread Recipe

This classic cornbread recipe yields a moist, slightly sweet bread perfect as a side for any meal or a comforting snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan or a cast iron skillet.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs with the milk and melted butter until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

For added flavor, try mixing in 1 cup of corn kernels or a handful of shredded cheddar cheese before baking.
