Blackberry Apple Oatmeal Crumble

A wholesome baked dessert combining tart blackberries and sweet apples under a crunchy oatmeal crumble topping, perfect for a comforting treat any time of year.

  • 3 cups fresh blackberries
  • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss blackberries and apple slices with granulated sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon until well coated.
  3. Transfer the fruit mixture into a greased 9×9-inch baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt.
  5. Pour melted butter over the oat mixture and stir until crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit in the baking dish.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and fruit is bubbling.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

For extra flavor, add a handful of chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts to the crumble topping before baking.
